and now...Back to Summer

I didn't post all Summer...so now I'm going to re-visit it! We had a great day at Manito Park in August. We had lunch at the Park Bench and played on the play ground and then Anne and Kate met us! Gabby loved showing baby Kate the playground. After they all played for quite some time, we headed back to the Park Bench for some ICE CREAM. Nicholas and Gabby had fun entertaining Kate with a game of peek-a-boo through the window in her stroller canopy. We also walked through the gardens and stopped to see the fountain. That night, we barbequed at Anne and Alvin's. All in all, a great summer day!

Soccer Stars

The kids each had their VERY FIRST soccer games last Saturday. And guess what...I FORGOT my camera. I can't believe that not only did i FORGET MY CAMERA, but I didn't even realize I'd forgotten it until the second game! It was SWELTERING HOT on Saturday. I am glad that it was the kids running up and down that field and not me. It was bad enough sitting on the sidelines! Gabby's game was at 12:15. She was AWESOME. Wow. I was actually pretty surprised at how well she did. She ran and ran and ran. She stole the ball. She dribbled all the way down the field. She stole the ball again...she kicked...she passed...she dribbled. She even played goalie and did fabulous. It was very exciting to watch.
After Gabby's game, we went to lunch...and then we hurried back to the field for Nick's game. He played at 2:45. It was STILL hot. VERY, VERY HOT. Nicholas got all red and blotchy in the face but he did great. He seemed a little lost and confused on the field, wasn't sure which way to turn for the "throw ins" but he did great. He ran and ran and ran. He got right into the thick of the play. He wasn't shy, he didn't complain. He wanted to be IN the game all the time. He jumped up and volunteered to go back in when another player got hurt. He says he made a goal. Chad and I missed it, if it happened. I was in the bathroom for a short time (lunch was at McDonal'ds...enough said) and Chad may have been talking to someone? Whatever the case, Nicholas is sure he made a goal.
The Farm Grandma and Grampa and Grandma Elaine all made it to both games...it was fun having a big cheering section for the Trent kids! I'm going to miss this Saturday's game...and I'm pretty bummed about it. I'm missing the game after THAT too. So, you'll have to wait for photos. Hopefully, the nice weather will hold out.

Second Graders

I keep telling myself I'll become better at blogging on a regular basis...but it doesn't seem to happen. I'll start trying harder (again). We had a great summer, but September came much too early (for me anyway, the kids were excited to get back to school). I can't believe they are SECOND GRADERS already. Seems like just yesterday we were oblivious to when school started or ended and our summers lasted as long as the sunny weather did.
I miss those days.
Here's a few photos of Nicholas and Gabby on their first day of Second Grade. They said their day was, "AWESOME!"
(I missed them all day and cried all the way home from dropping them off that morning)

Awe...they love each other!

Their skinny little legs look even more bird-like below those hulking backpacks!
(packpacks, as Nicholas says)

Here they are as little preschoolers...all the way up to big 2nd graders.

School wasn't the only thing happening on September 1st. Nicholas and Gabby also had their first soccer practices! Nick's practice was at a park very near our house at 5:15 to 6. Gabby's practice started at 6...at a park 15 minutes away! Chad was (and still is) out of town. Thank goodness Grandma Elaine came to the rescue and brought Gabby to practice and stayed until I could meet them. Here they are at practice, which they LOVED, by the way!

Nicholas was thrilled to get his first soccer jersey and put it on AS SOON AS WE GOT IN THE CAR to go to Gabby's practice! He insisted on wearing it to school the next day as well! (I think he might be more excited about the uniform than he is about actually playing soccer!)
He picked number 8...I think next year he'll want number 9...just a hunch.

Gabby's team didn't get their jerseys yet...but we hear they are GOLDEN in color. Gabby is thrilled by this. The color is actually described as "Vegas Gold"...should be interesting
(and right up Gabby's alley!)

Time Flies!

I know it's been forever since I've updated! Almost three months have gone by!
Nicholas and Gabby are now full-fledged first graders with almost three months of first grade under their belts. They are both loving school. They love their fabulous teacher and their fabulous student teacher and are even pretty good about doing their homework every night. So far they have been working hard on math, reading and writing and have also learned a lot about BATS (can you say "echolocation"? Nick and Gabby can...and they can tell you all about it as well!) Currently, they are working on a MAGNET unit and are really enjoying it. They have swiped most of my refrigerator magnets for their magnet experiments. For Veteran's Day, the school had a little Veteran's celebration and the kids all made paper hats to wear for the event. Nicholas and Gabby enjoyed the hat making so much that they came home and spent the rest of the afternoon making more hats. 106 to be exact. We are now out of printer paper. So far, the first graders have enjoyed one field trip...to Hidden Acres pumpkin patch and apple orchard on Green Bluff. I got to go along as a chaperone and it was great fun. They picked apples, chose a pumpkin, ran through the corn maze, went on a hay ride, learned about bees and pollination and enjoyed a yummy snack of donuts and apple cider.
Mostly, our days have been filled with school and school activities. I'm the PTO president this year so have been busy working on PTO stuff. I also enjoy volunteering at school whenever I have the chance. I am the 'hot lunch' mom every first Wednesday of the month and enjoy the frantic rush of handing out pizza to about 75 kids in 20 minutes. I'm also chairing the school's fundraising auction again this year and am working on the first few details of that. Finally, through a couple of friends, I got a temporary holiday help job at Williams Sonoma, wrapping gifts. As many of you know, I LOVE gift wrapping. I've only worked one day so far, but it was pretty fun. During the week I am able to work while the kids are in school and still have time to drop them off and pick them up from school...so it's perfect! I'm also still enjoying the book club I'm in. Once a month I get to hang out with a fabulous group of women, drink wine, talk about books and eat yummy treats. It's become something I look forward to all month! I've also been able to babysit little Kate a few times, which has been great fun. She is a wonderful little baby and is so darn cute. Gabby has come with me twice and loves babysitting. She just loves babies.

During the first few weekends of Fall, Chad and I were still working on painting our house...it's still not finished but hopefully we'll " get 'er done" this Spring. (I think we've said that before...) We also went to Portland in September for cousin Katie's wedding to Erik, which was beautiful and qute fun! I enjoyed catching up with cousins, helping to cut the cake and sharing in a wonderful day. In Portland, stayed with Chad's cousin, Spencer, and his wife Kate and other cousin Josie. There, we stayed up too late drinking brewskies and playing an odd version of Clue. We also ate yummy fajitas filled with fresh veggies from their garden.
Chad is also working on turning our back porch into a pantry. I cannot wait to have the extra storage space and free up some room in the kitchen. So far, it's framed in, insulated, and mostly dry walled. Now he's working on the wall with the door in it and adjusting everything to fit correctly. It's all a ton of fun in this old, crooked house!
Last weekend, Gabby and I, participated in a 'Girls Only Craft Weekend' at Aunt Mary's house. We both had a terriffic time. Gabby loved hanging out with all the aunties and her grandma, helping with baby Henry (an exception to the girls only rule), riding Rockee the horse, playing with Hankie the dog and gathering eggs from the chicken coop each morning! I enjoyed hanging out with my aunties and mom and cousin and cuddling with baby Henry and eating and drinking and drinking and eating... I even made a couple of Christmas gifts! While we were gone, Chad and Nicholas hung out at The Farm with the Farm Grandma and Grampa and some cousins. So I think we all had a fun weekend.
Tomorrow is a 'no school' day...as is Friday...for conferences. Ours is tomorrow morning and then we have the rest of the 4 day weekend off! Yippee! The following week is another short one with the Thanksgiving holiday. And then Christmas preparations will be spurred into high gear...one of my favorite times of the year!
Here are a few photos of the last few months...enjoy!
